Main House Tour – What to Expect
Tours begin at the Visitor’s Center, where you’ll check in and pay for your ticket, followed by a short introduction to Goodwood’s history from your docent. From there, the group heads to the front porch of the House to begin the museum tour.
Inside, you’ll move through the rooms with your docent, viewing furniture and objects that largely belonged to the home’s original owners. Your docent will describe the history of the artifacts, the lives of the owners, and the lives of those who were enslaved at Goodwood from 1832 to 1865. The tour covers both floors of the house as well as the basement. An elevator provides access to the first floor; the second floor and basement are reached by stairs only.
A large portion of the tour requires standing; however, Goodwood offers designated seating throughout the tour for visitors who need to rest.
Tours typically run 1 to 1.5 hours.
Accessibility
We are committed to ensuring accessibility for all visitors. The Carriage House, Roller Rink, Visitors Center, and Main House Museum are wheelchair accessible and have designated accessible parking. In addition, an elevator is available for individuals who may need assistance to tour the Main House Museum. Please get in touch with us at least one week in advance if you require additional accommodations.
