Remembering Polly

We are saddened to share the news that Polly has left Goodwood to join her friends in pet heaven. She was found Thursday morning peacefully curled up under the climbing rose at the Visitor Center.

French Poet Anatole France said, “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” Polly awakened souls at Goodwood since she arrived unannounced in 2011 as an adult cat. During the eleven years she spent here, Polly was one of the organization’s greatest ambassadors. She enthusiastically greeted guests to her home – welcoming visitors, shining on social media, posing for photographers, and interrupting volunteers. Although she expected the entire staff to make feeding her the day’s first and last priority, she was always generous with her affection in between meals. Her superpower was to make people feel valued. This gift is already deeply missed.

Polly’s final resting place is across from the Visitor’s Center where she would often bask in the sun. She will be remembered and honored at this spot with a small marker.
