Moses Crooms (center), born into slavery at Goodwood, was a 15 year old carpenter when he was emancipated after the Civil War. He and his wife Daphne became pillars of the community in Sanford, Florida. Their son J.N. (far right, middle row) established Crooms Academy, still a respected magnet school today.
