Museum & Gardens
The Main House, which is now open to the public as a museum, was built
circa 1840. One of the finest antebellum plantation houses ever built
in this region, it features some of the earliest fresco ceilings in
Florida. The collections and furnishings are all original to the house.
The original idea for the gardens came from Hardy Croom, the first owner
of Goodwood plantation. Research documentation and careful selection
of heirloom plants allowed us to restore to these grounds the sense and
ambience of the garden of the early 1900s. No plants introduced later
than 1929 are used in the restoration. The gardens have been a regional
resource for heirloom plants and old garden roses.
